Living Out The Passion For Wine

Revived in 1998 and renovated in 2012, the exceptionally beautiful Château Monestier La Tour is located in an idyllic, serene landscape on the borders of Périgord, in the heart of Bergerac region. The Scheufele family acquired the estate in 2012 with the vision to make wine that respects nature and expresses the quality of terroir. The vineyard is spread across 30 hectares which produce organic and biodynamic wines with the help of Stéphane Derenoncourt, Oenologist consultant.

Hope to preserve the biodiversity and natural balance of the special environment at Château Monestier La Tour

Heritage as Rich And Elegant As The Wines It Produces

The estate has a history of viticulture since 1792 which was passed down through noble French families. The chateau was acquired by proprietors from New Zealand and the Netherlands before acquired in 2012 by the Scheufele family, who have restored the chateau to its grandeur. Out of 30 hectares of vineyard, 17 hectares are planted with red grapes including 62% of Merlot, 30% of Cabernet Franc, 5% of Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec. The remaining 12.5 hectares are planted with 61% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 9% Muscadelle for dry and sweet white wines.

Natural balance of the special environment at Château Monestier La Tour

The vineyard obtained organic certification in 2017, after a three year conversion period. The ultimate objective is to intervene as little as possible and to try to reach a natural, self-sustaining balance in the vineyard. To do this, viticulturists use nine preparations made exclusively from natural substances. The preparations have numbers ranging from 500 to 508 and help strengthen life in the soil, organisms and plants.

Wine tasting tour

This tour is cheaper than some but we learned so much from our lovely tour guide . We saw the gardens , the wine making rooms and then tasted some great wines . You’ll get to understand a bit about the biodynamic methods they use to produce the wine and maybe drink your next glass of wine with a little more respect and understanding!! The wine prices are also better than many other makers should you wish to purchase any afterwards .
