A family run organic wine farm in Maremma, Tuscany

An Abandoned Farm Brought to Life

The Basile Organic Wine Farm is located in Maremma, Tuscany, in the municipality of Cinigiano. The winery had been abandoned for thirty years when Giovani Mattista Basile decided to purchase the state in 1999 and turn it into a productive business. With the help of a winemaker, Maurizio Saettini, he and his family worked tirelessly to start the agricultural and oenological activities in this abandoned farm and convert it into a fruitful wine business.

Best Soil Conditions for High Quality Wines

Their winery extends about 34 hectares at an altitude between 330 to 380 meters. The soil has a prevalently calcareous composition and with good climatic condition, their vineyards are ideal for the grape cultivation. They grow vines of Sangiovese, Merlot and Vermentino varieties. Basile Organic Wine Farm has, from its very beginning, chosen to manage the vineyards according to the norms indicated by biological agriculture. The vineyards are surrounded by woods that create a natural protective barrier. Manure and other organic materials of biological origin are used as fertilizers. Many operations including the harvest are carried out manually to permit the best quality of the grapes. The grapes produced here are of highest quality and are used to make great wines that are organically certified.
