Discover a winery in an ancient castle: Château Mukhrani

A History of Château Mukhrani

Château Mukhrani is based on the historical tradition of wine-making in the Mukhrani region. With a combination of 4 components: vineyards, winery, castle, and tradition it stands as one of the first and only true Georgian Royal Chateau. The estate of Mukhrani became the prince’s estate, governed by Bagrationi royal family in 1512. The wine production unit was only established in the 19th century by Ivane Mukhranbatoni a key representative of the royal family who returned from France with the concept of a Chateau. During the Soviet time, Château Mukhrani was abandoned and almost destroyed. In 2002 a group of businessmen laid the basis for the restoration of the project of Château Mukhrani. Group intended to revive the estate to its former glory and re-establish production at Mukhrani, combining modern and traditional technologies.

The Regal Vines at the Chateau

The Château Mukhrani vintages indicate an ancestral heritage that reflects the combined values of heart and soul. By a strict, selective grape selection and the use of well-tested traditional vinification methods, our wines are patiently elaborated to a final taste profile, revealing their uniqueness. Mukhrani (“decorated with oak trees“) is one of the most beautiful Georgian villages, on the strip of lowland between the Caucasus and Trialeti mountain ranges. The vineyards of the Château are located on the best-selected plots of the soil of this region. The land is made up of alluvial and diluvial loamy strata. This harmony of nature, tradition, and man gives a strong structure to the Mukhrani wine.
