Family winery with a rich history and a modern hotel and vinothek
Weingut Otto Görgen, a Legacy With a Rich History and Many Generations of Experience
The Weingut Otto Görgen is a family winery that is present in the Cochemer Krampen in the centre of Zell and Cochem. The company has a rich history and many generations of experience. Viticulture has been going on here since 1707 and is almost in the eighth generation now. Currently, viticulturist Matthias Görgen manages the winery along with his parents. The winery is quality oriented and combines traditional knowledge with modern techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to make good and high-quality wines. They grow vines on the steep Moselle slopes and have a vast number of loyal customers.
Low Yield, High Quality
The company has around 14.5 hectares of land under vineyards, half of which are on steep slopes. The main locations are Briedel, Mesenich, Beilstein Schloßberg, Briedern Rüberberger Domherrenberg and Ellenz-Poltersdorf. Around 80% of the area is planted with white grape varietals, especially Riesling. The yield through the vines is low but of very high quality and intense character. Red grape varieties hold a 20% share in their vineyards. The slate soil retains moisture and absorbs the heat from the sun. The land, along with the temperate climate makes the region ideal for the cultivation of vines. The main types of grapes that grow here are Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Kerner, Dornfelder and Muller-Thurgau. The best grapes are used to make their traditional red, white, rose, sparkling and dessert wines. They work under the principle of sustainability to protect the nature and the health of their wines. We offer tastings in our tasting room in Beilstein on weekends for 10,50 Euro p.P
