Lauffener Weingärtner, Thriving Cooperative in Germany

Many wine cooperatives started making wines at the end of the 19th century, but due to a German wine-growing crisis, the businesses were suppressed. In 1935, Lauffener Cooperative was established and currently ranks amongst the best and most reputable cooperatives of Germany. In 2012, the estate acquired another coop, Käsbergkeller Mundelsheim, and expanded its winemaking production into the region of Baden. These wines are crushed and vinified at the Käsberg Cellar in the town of Mundelsheim.

Vineyard Area and Grape Cultivation

Working on the farming area of 890 hectares, Lauffener Winery cultivates an extensive range of grapes in steep slope vineyards. Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Grigio are the most commonly grown grape varieties. In some patches of land, the winery grows Lemberger, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Schwarzriesling, and Müller-Thurgau. Potato farming and cereal crops are also grown throughout the cooperative.

Today, Lauffener Weingärtner produces red, white, rosé, dessert, sparkling, and fortified wines, under the Deutsche Landwirtschaftsgesellschaft certification. The winery has also received accreditations, such as International Featured Standard (IFS), and organic certifications from ECOVIN and BIO-Baden-Württemberg.
