Family winery that uses the traditional hatcheries and soleras system

Bodega Gutierrez Colosia – a Quality Andalusian Winery Since 1838

Bodega Gutierrez Colosia is located by the side of the Guadalete River in the Bay of Cadiz since 1838. The winery has a long history and tradition. The first cellar at Bodega Gutierrez Colosia was established in 1838 and exists similiarilty even today. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Mr. Jose Gutierrez Dosal, the grandfather of the Gutierrez Colosia Family, bought the winery. Humid winds from Poniente and dry winds from Levante keep the humidity in balance to maintain the best conditions for wine production in this region.
The production of wines at Bodega Gutierrez Colosia is performed through the traditional Solera system method.

Location by the Guadalete River helps with Biological Aging of Fino Sherry

The production of Sherry at Bodega Gutierrez Colosia uses the traditional system of criaderas and soleras that ensures the high quality of the wines. The location by the side of the Guadalete River helps in the biological aging of their Fino Sherry and the formation of a good layer of yeast over the surface of wine called “”flor””. Bodega Gutierrez Colosia is responsible for the distinct taste and fragrance of the wines in this traditional regional method.

Palomino, Moscatel, and Pedro Ximénez at the Winery for Sherry Production

Bodega Gutierrez Colosia uses an architectural style known as “Nave Cathedral” for their large aging cellars. This building type uses high rise structures and multiple arches that expose the wines to the unique climate of the region. In the winery, Sherry is produced with regular fermentation, low fortification and then wines enter into the Solers System.Sherry wines are a wonderful tradtion form the Andalusia region that reflect the charcter and the hisoty of the region. This style of fortified wines are an aquired taste, but we invite you to discover the wonerful range of Sherry wines at Bodega Gutierrez Colosia made from Palomino, Moscatel, and PX grapes.
